Beskrivelse
Norges jagerflyskvadroner i krig
Description:
Norway’s fighter squadrons at war
«Spitfire Saga» contains the story of Norway’s only two fighter units and their operations during the 2nd World War. Following a periopd of mostly waiting and training in Northern England, Scotland, on the Orkneys and the Shetlands, the fighter units finally arrived at the fighter station RAF North Weald near London in May and June 1942. Now the fighting started in ernest, with low attacks over the Continent and dramatic air battles above Northern France and The English Channel. And the losses encreased. «The exam» for the Norwegians came during the Dieppe raid on August 19th 1942, when the Norwegian units were among the most successful on the Allied side. With contributions from more than 60 war veterans, and drawing on all availible sources in public archives and in private hands, furthermore nearly 1000 images (in Volume i and II combined), the story of the fighter squadrons continues in this volume of «Spitfire Saga».
